Organization
The Foundation for Hotel Heritage Switzerland is a non-profit, tax-exempt organisation based in Bern and active throughout Switzerland.
It is the result of the further development of the Stiftung Hotelarchiv Schweiz [Swiss Hotel Archives Foundation] and since 2025 has formed part of a joint organisational structure with the Friends of Swiss Historic Hotels association, which has led to the creation of a national centre of expertise for Swiss hotel heritage.
The foundation board is responsible for strategic management and combines expertise from the hotel industry, monument preservation, archives and architectural legacy.

Operational activities are carried out through the office – the Hotel Heritage Switzerland Competence Centre. We coordinate projects, develop services, and collaborate with experts and partner institutions.

«My involvement as Managing Director of the Foundation for Hotel Heritage Switzerland brings my biographical journey full circle, as my grandparents Norbert and Annie Cattani owned the Hotel Engel in Engelberg. I too am part of the Cattani family, who brought tourism to Engelberg in the mid-19th century and built wonderful hotels there.»
Our supporters' association provides the foundation with both moral and financial support and strengthens the social anchoring of our commitment.
The Friends of Swiss Historic Hotels association was founded in 2014 to specifically promote the preservation of historic hotels in Switzerland and to highlight their cultural significance.
Today, the association forms a committed community of patrons who together contribute to ensuring that the Foundation for Hotel Heritage Switzerland can fulfil its tasks in the long term.
